What is Learn Darbuka?
Learn Darbuka is an online learning platform created by Sonika Percussion and led by Hakan Kaya. It offers professionally designed video courses for darbuka players of all levels — from beginner to advanced.
Who are the courses for?
The courses are suitable for complete beginners, intermediate players, and advanced players looking to refine technique, grooves, and musical expression. Each course clearly states its recommended level.
Who teaches the courses?
All courses are taught by Hakan Kaya, a professional Turkish percussionist with over 25 years of playing and teaching experience.
How do I access the courses after purchase?
After completing your purchase, log in to your account and go to My Courses from the top menu or your profile. You can start watching immediately and access your courses anytime, anywhere.
Are the courses live or pre-recorded?
All Learn Darbuka courses are pre-recorded video lessons. This allows you to learn at your own pace and rewatch lessons whenever you want.
Do the courses include slow motion and close-up shots?
Yes. Many lessons include slow-motion breakdowns and close-up camera angles to clearly show finger movements and hand positions.
Can I download the videos?
Courses are streamed through your Learn Darbuka account and can be accessed online at any time after purchase.
How long do I have access to the courses?
Once purchased, you have lifetime access to the course(s).
Do I need any prior music knowledge?
No prior music theory knowledge is required. Beginner courses start from the basics, and advanced courses build step by step.
What equipment do I need?
You only need a darbuka, an internet connection, and a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Headphones are recommended.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. You can book one-to-one private online lessons with Hakan Kaya via Zoom. Private lessons are available as single sessions or discounted packages.
Is there a community or forum?
Yes. After registering, you get free access to the Learn Darbuka Forum where you can ask questions, chat with Hakan Kaya and other players, and share experiences.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are securely processed via credit card only.
Can I get a refund?
Due to the digital nature of the courses, all sales are final. If you experience a technical issue, please contact us.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are one-to-one Zoom sessions with Hakan Kaya. Each lesson lasts 60 minutes and is fully tailored to your level and goals. You can purchase single lessons or discounted packages. After purchase, you fill out a scheduling form and receive a confirmation email.
Full Access Package
The Full Access Package gives you access to all current Learn Darbuka courses in one bundle. It is ideal for players who want complete access to the full learning library at the best value. Any new courses added in the future may be included depending on package terms.
