Beginners and Intermediate Players

This intense online course is designed for beginners to learn how to play darbuka and for intermediate level darbuka players to improve the skills and techniques. The 2 hour-course consists of 10 bundled lessons with 45 videos where each of them carefully selected to walk you through step by step in learning and improving darbuka playing skills from basic exercises to playing popular rhythms. Throughout the lessons you will be guided with a classroom approach having “instructor-to-student” conversations, questions & answers and on-screen notations. Also you will be guided with solo playing of Hakan Kaya accompanied with close up shots and slow motion scenes.

Instructor

Hakan Kaya

Born into a musician family in Istanbul, Hakan Kaya began his musical journey at an early age within the rich rhythm traditions of Anatolian folk music. He received his first percussion training from İzzet Kızıl and Şenol Cümbüşlü, and at the age of 16 studied Indian rhythms and Tabla in Varanasi, India. For many years, Hakan Kaya has performed with leading musicians and taught Darbuka, Riq, Frame Drum, and Def to students from around the world. In 2013, he became the first Turkish percussionist to release an instructional darbuka DVD. Today, his teaching blends tradition, technique, and musical expression, shaped by over 25 years of playing and teaching experience.
